ASL Director -- Dr. Robert R. Tomes (b. 1969)
Dr. Robert Tomes is a Director of Strategy and Plans at BAE Systems, Inc. He also directs BAE Systems' Analytic Tradecraft Advancement Center. Dr. Tomes is also an adjunct professor at the Elliot School of International Affairs at George Washington University and serves on the boards of the Council for Emerging National Security Affairs (CENSA) as well as the board of the Anna Sobol Levy Foundation. He has consulted for the World Bank, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, several intelligence agencies, and the Department of Homeland Security.
His previous experience includes serving as a senior manager at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, as the Vice President for Research and Programs at Innovative Analytics and Training, and as a defense analyst at the RAND Corporation.
Tomes is also the President of Liminal Leadership, LLC and a co-founder of the MapStor Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to mapping the world's human terrain to improve regional security and stability.
Dr. Tomes is the author of "US Defense Strategy from Vietnam to Operation Iraqi Freedom" (Routledge 2007) and numerous articles in national security journals, book chapters, and peer reviewed conference papers. He co-authored "Crossroads Africa" (2010) and "Hybrid Warfare and Transnational Threats" (2011), both published by CENSA.
