The Iron Dome

Israel’s small size makes intercepting terrorist missile attacks very challenging. Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system has proven highly effective in intercepting and destroying inbound missiles. It reportedly has a success rate of 90%.

FIERCELY INDEPENDENT

Israel declared its independence on May 14, 1948 upon the expiration of the British Mandate, which had been carved out of the Ottoman Empire after World War I. According to a United Nation’s plan, the area of the British Mandate was to have been divided into a Jewish State and an Arab State. However, the day after Israel declared independence, Egypt, Syria, Jordan, and Iraq attacked, sparking Israel’s War of Independence. At the conclusion of hostilities, Israel retained its original territory and a portion of the territory that would have become an Arab state. The neighboring countries absorbed the remaining territory. Jordan absorbed the West Bank and Egypt absorbed the Gaza strip. Those areas remained part of Jordan and Egypt until Israel captured them in the 1967 Six Day War.

Success Story

Erik Wilkerson

Captain Erik Wilkerson is a native of Terre Haute, Indiana. As an undergraduate, he attended the Virginia Military Institute, were he was designated a Distinguished Graduate and awarded a Bachelor of Arts Degree in International Studies. While at VMI, then-Cadet Wilkerson served as the Cadet S-2 (Academic) Captain, President of the Classical Music Society, account manager with the Cadet Investment Group, and Vice-President of the English Society.
